England’s Nick Brett and Scotland’s Claire Johnston were crowned mixed pairs champions at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in England.

The duo would face the challenge of Scotland’s Paul Foster and England’s Rebecca Field at the Potters Leisure Resort.

A closely fought contest would see Brett and Johnston triumph 7-6 in the opening end, but their rivals hit back to win the second 9-7.

Brett and Johnston would level the scores by winning the next end 2-1 to take the match into a tie-breaker.

The pairing held their nerve to ultimately triumph in the tie-break and secure the world title.

In the men’s singles, Greg Harlow won an all-English second round match 9-3, 10-11, 2-1 against James Rippey.

England’s Jamie Chestney surprisingly overcame his compatriot and second seed Robert Paxton by an 8-6, 6-5 scoreline.

Action is due to continue tomorrow.
