It has been confirmed the delayed 2016 edition of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Women's World Championship will take place in El Gouna in Egypt in April.

The showpiece tournament was initially due to be played in December, but was postponed due to "complications in the negotiations process".

It means this year will witness two Women's World Championships, with the 2017 edition due to take place in English city Manchester between December 9 and 17, alongside the men's event.

Action in El Gouna is scheduled to take place between April 5 and 14 with 56 players competing.

"We are pleased to be able to confirm that the 2016 edition of the Women's World Championship will take place in April following a period of uncertainty regarding the event's status," said PSA chief executive Alex Gough.

"We have been working closely with several parties to make sure that the event happens and that our players do not lose out on the opportunity to compete not only for the sport's most lucrative title, but also for the significant ranking gains that are associated with the World Championship.

"The team in El Gouna, led by Amr Mansi, have ensured that the staging of the tournament will go ahead and we look forward to working with his team ahead of the event in April."

Egypt last hosted the World Championships in 2014 when Malaysia's Nicol David won her eighth title by beating home favourite Raneem El Welily in five games.

The African country is now the dominant power in global squash, with the top three women's players from the world all being Egyptian.

This includes world number one Nour El Sherbini, who will be the defending champion in El Gouna having won the 2015 title in Kuala Lumpur.

The Red Sea resort will also host the El Gouna International - an elite men's competition - during the same week in April.

"We are extremely happy to be bringing Egypt, and El Gouna, the 2016 Women's World Championship after successful negotiations with the PSA," said Mansi, the tournament director.

"During last year's men's El Gouna International I pledged to stage a women's event in 2017.

"So to not only be doing that, but to be staging the biggest tournament on the women's calendar, is a fantastic opportunity and I would like to thank all my sponsors for making it happen."

The PSA Women's World Championships have had a troubled recent history, with the 2015 tournament in Malaysia's capital also postponed.

It was moved from December of that year to April 2016 due to financial issues within organisers Hallmark Events Group.
