Ronnie Lim is to leave his position as chief executive of the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) at the end of January after three years in the role.

The 42-year-old joined the SBA in November 2013 after leaving his role as general manager and head of capital markets at the Royal Bank of Canada's Singapore branch.

Lim will officially leave his post on January 31.

He replaced Bobby Lee after the his resignation in September 2013 following 18 months in charge.

"These three years at SBA have been very fulfilling for me," said Lim in a statement.

"During this time, we introduced our first Singaporean chief coach and encouraged more locals to pick up badminton as a professional sport.

"I also had the opportunity to be involved in the SEA (South-east Asia) Games in Singapore and Myanmar, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Asian Games in Incheon and the recent Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

"My greatest moments are witnessing our athletes win medals at these major Games which make me feel especially proud as a Singaporean."

During his time in the position, Singapore have enjoyed success in the sport.

Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei claimed a women's doubles bronze medal at the 2013 SEA Games in Naypyitaw in Myanmar.

Two years later on home soil, the country won a further four bronzes in the men's singles, men's doubles, men's team and women's team events.

There was also an impressive performance at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where Derek Wong took the men's singles silver.

Chayut Triyachart and Danny Bawa Chrisnanta claimed the men's doubles silver while Singapore also took bronze in the mixed team event.

The men's team also qualified for the 2014 Thomas Cup finals in New Delhi.

It was the first time the country had qualified for the event since 1986, but they produced a disappointing performance, failing to advance past the group stage.

"Ronnie, together with our coaches, has set up an effective and sustainable system to recruit and train our national players," added SBA President Tan Kian Chew.

"I thank him for his contribution to the sport.

"He has also informed me that he wishes to try something different now that he has been involved in all the major games.

"I wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
