The Olympic Committee of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (MOC) has re-elected Vasil Tupurkovski as President for another four years.

Tupurkovski will now serve until 2020, with his new term including the Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

He defeated sole rival Atanas Nikolovski to ensure that he stays in the job.

Fourteen out of 27 Olympic National Federations backed Tupurkovski after he was proposed by the country's triathlon body.

Nikolovski had been put forward by the governing body for canoeing.

The sitting President is said to have won by a "huge majority" and he was voted back in by acclamation.

Twenty members of the MOC's Executive Board were proposed by Tupurkovski following the election.

Two new sports have also become members of the organisation, representing climbing and ice skating.

Climbing is one of five sports that has been added to the Summer Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020, alongside baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding and surfing.

Macedonia has won one medal in its Olympic history since the country gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.

That came courtesy of wrestler Magomed Ibragimov, who won bronze in the men's 85-kilogram freestyle at Sydney 2000.

In August, Macedonia sent six athletes to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Skopje, the country's capital, will host all 50 European National Olympic Committees for the 38th European Olympic Committees' seminar, on May 19 and 20 next year.
