The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has signed a deal with Dentsu Sports Asia (DSA), which will see the company market and sign sponsors for the governing body.

DSA, already a partner of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, is hoping to spread its presence in the region in the build-up to the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

Kunihito Morimura, President and chief executive of DSA, said: "As long-time supporters of sports, DSA is privileged and excited to continue contributing to this growth, especially in Malaysia."

Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, the President of OCM, described the partnership as a "milestone" for the governing body, according to Campaign Asia

"We are confident that this partnership will take OCM to greater heights as a dynamic body at the forefront of Malaysian sports and in the right direction towards securing better sponsorships, with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in mind," he said.

Malaysia are still searching for their first Olympic gold medal following the Games in Rio de Janeiro in August.

They did, however, enjoy their best-ever Olympics with five medals, four silvers and a bronze.

Their previous best haul was two medals at both Atlanta 1996 and London 2012.

Badminton player Lee Chong Wei was a big hope for a first gold, but he lost the men's singles final to China's Chen Long.
