Tennis star Milos Raonic has helped the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) set up an online tool which helps children with disabilities get involved with sport.

The "Find an Activity" tool allows Canadian parents and professionals from health, education, sport and recreation to access a number of resources, activity plans and sport providers.

It is hoped the initiative will expand opportunities for youngsters and increase awareness of Para-sport, with the tool able to search by location, age, disability type and sport preferences.

Find an Activity is up and running thanks to a CAD$30,000 (£18,000/$22,000/€20,000) donation from the Milos Raonic Foundation.

The 25-year-old is the highest ranked men's Canadian tennis player in the open era, and is currently number five in the world.

He reached the Wimbledon final this year where he was beaten by Britain's Andy Murray.

"I'm very pleased to see that the Find an Activity tool has been successfully launched and is now helping increase participation in Para-sport," said Raonic.

"I encourage Canadians to check out this resource and to spread the word among their networks so that more children with a disability can experience the many benefits of becoming active in sports, such as friendship, confidence and fitness."

The mandate of Raonic's Foundation is to "support initiatives intended to reduce economic, physical and other barriers that might prevent the full integration of all children in the lives of their communities".

"The Canadian Paralympic Committee would like to thank Milos Raonic and his Foundation for enabling the development of this pioneering online tool, which already has over 50 resources in its collection," said Karen O'Neill, chief executive of the CPC.

"As we celebrate Team Canada's performances in Rio and look ahead to future Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, Tokyo, Beijing and beyond, we're grateful for Milos' support to help more children with a disability become active in sports and possibly spark the dream of competing for Team Canada."
