World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) President Chungwon Choue has offered his congratulations to Nadin Dawani after the Jordanian was appointed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission.

Dawani was one of four new members appointed by IOC President Thomas Bach, along with Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal, Argentinian basketball star Luis Scola and Egyptian modern pentathlete Aya Medany.

The quartet will not, however, serve as full members of the IOC.

Choue wrote a letter to Dawani following her appointment and expressed his support to the taekwondo player.

"I’m writing to you to express my sincere congratulations on your appointment as member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission," the WTF President wrote.

"I’m so proud of your appointment on behalf of the global taekwondo family.

"I have no doubt that your knowledge and experience will contribute to the growth and developed of world of sport.

"I hope you will be further contributing to strengthening of the role of taekwondo within the Olympic Movement.

"I will be happy to support you in further promoting and developing taekwondo."

Dawani became the first Jordanese taekwondo player to win an Asian title in 2012 and carried her country's flag in the Olympic Games in London the same year.

She served as Jordan's Chef de Mission at Rio 2016, where fellow taekwondo athlete Ahmad Abu-Ghaush claimed a first gold medal for the nation.

Dawani is the only taekwondo athlete on the 20-member Commission and Choue hopes she will work to ensure that taekwondo athletes and athletes from all Olympic sports are kept at the very heart of the Olympic Movement.
