World Sailing’s sustainability strategy will be presented during the opening forum of the organisation’s Annual Conference in Barcelona and will be streamed live online, it has been announced.

Andy Hunt, chief executive of the sport’s worldwide governing body, will unveil the plan as part of the sustainability forum.

It is scheduled to take place on November 7 during the Annual Conference at the Hotel Renaissance Barcelona Fira, which concludes on November 13 with the General Assembly, featuring the Presidential election.

"Our Sustainable Future" has been chosen as the key theme of the Conference, an event expected to attract around 700 delegates from across the world.

World Sailing are set to reveal plans for a healthy sustainable future for the sport, as well as the more specific subject of sustainability in the waters of the world, at the event.

The sustainability forum will be rounded off by a panel session, including a number of keynote speakers such as Julia Palle, the sustainability manager at the FIA Formula E Championship.

It will be chaired by broadcaster Alec Wilkinson.

The second forum at the Annual Conference, the largest gathering of officials within World Sailing, on November 8 will focus on Para-sailing, which has been axed from the Paralympic Games programme and will not feature at Tokyo 2020.

It is hoped they will be able to regain their place at the Games after the governing body launched a Paralympic Development Programme in June in a direct response to the sport’s exclusion from Tokyo 2020.

A "Para World Sailing strategic plan" for 2017 to 2020 will be formally presented at the forum, which will seek to establish key goals to aid the sport's bid for reinstatement at the Paralympic Games in 2024.

The third session will be held under the "Commercial Strategy for the Sport" banner and will include a talk from chief commercial officer Hugh Chambers.

All three forums will be streamed live online, World Sailing has confirmed.

"The sustainability forum will enable delegates to explore how to maximise the impact of World Sailing's vision and mission, all of which can be captured in a simple message: sport, technology and nature in perfect harmony," said Hunt.

"Sailors have a collective desire to be guardians of the oceans and we hope that those in attendance and watching online seize the opportunities available, join the debate and look to work together to make positive change."

Italian Carlo Croce will bid for re-election as President at the General Assembly.

He will be challenged by former governing body head Paul Henderson of Canada, who served in the position from 1994 to 2004, and Denmark’s Kim Andersen, the chair of World Sailing’s Equipment Committee.

The winner will serve a four-year term.
