The USA Cricket Association (USACA) has moved a step closer to reinstatement as a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after an advisory group confirmed a revised constitution for the organisation would be reviewed later this month.

The USACA was suspended in June 2015 after an ICC-commissioned review group expressed "significant concerns about the governance, finance, reputation and cricketing activities of USACA".

Their temporary exclusion from world cricket was then ratified by the full ICC Council at the Annual Conference in Edinburgh earlier this year.

The advisory group, comprising of representatives from across the cricketing family in the US, "has been working for a number of months on developing a draft constitution that will provide cricket in the USA with a sustainable foundation", according to an ICC statement.

The constitution, presented to ICC chairman Shashank Manohar, will now be considered by the ICC Board, who will then decide on the next steps which should be taken.

"I would like to thank everyone who has committed to this process for the long term benefit of cricket in the USA," said Manohar.

ICC chief executive David Richardson claimed there is a "clear desire" for the USACA's issues to be resolved as quickly as possible to ensure they are able to return to the international fold.

"We have heard from representatives across the USA cricketing community and there is a clear desire from them to unify under a single umbrella," he said.

"The ICC is here to facilitate that process of building a strong foundation on which the sport can develop.

"Should the ICC Board consider the new constitution appropriate for the US market then we would look to USACA to adopt that as part of the fulfilment of their reinstatement conditions before full implementation of the constitution in 2017."

The USACA was an affiliate member of the ICC, the level below full members, who have Test-playing status, before the governing body was suspended.
