Sustainable management of National Federations formed a key part of the agenda at an International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) workshop in Buenos Aires today.

Held as part of the FIVB Congress in the Argentine capital, the workshop attempted to educate the members of the worldwide governing body on how they can raise funds to help with the development of the sport in their respective countries.

A key future mission for the FIVB is to make volleyball the most popular family sport entertainment in the world.

The workshop, opened by FIVB President Ary Graça, who is due to be re-elected for an eight-year term as head of the organisation tomorrow, also included a presentation from communications director Richard Baker.

He spoke on how National Federations can activate the right communications platform in an attempt to increase engagement within the sport.

The "VolleyballYourWayMovement" was also discussed, with the FIVB urging its members to take on the project, which involves courses targeted at teaching children the basics of the sport.

"As a family, we are all working together - and for me it is always important for the FIVB to be a good example for you," Graça said in his opening remarks.

"At the FIVB we have been working hard to provide you with opportunities to grow volleyball.

"Almost everybody at the FIVB has experience of managing a National Federation.

"This is very important for us.

"Strong National Federations are the foundation on which our house is built."

Brazilian Graça, first elected as President in 2012, also hopes for increased Olympic Solidarity funding for the FIVB’s members.

"Our goal must be to win Olympic Solidarity funding for every National Federation where we can, we must share the stories about how to be successful," the 73-year-old added.

"I know that our vision to make volleyball the number one family sport entertainment in the world has been helpful.

"For Canada, like for many Federations, the Government funding is directly linked to the idea of more people playing our sport.

"The FIVB will keep supporting this ambition of more participation because we know it is helpful for you."

The Congress, taking place at the Hilton Hotel, continues tomorrow with the Presidential election.

Graça is standing unopposed.
