Spain were crowned winners of the Women's World Championship of Rink Hockey after beating their rivals Portugal with a dramatic overtime victory in Iquique, Chile.

The Spanish team had triumphed in their group stage meeting earlier in the tournament, and the European champions looked on course for a straightforward win when Laura Puigdueta scored twice.

Goals from Marta Vieira and Marlene Sousa saw Portugal draw level in the second half, with the match then requiring an additional period to decide the winners.

Maria Diez achieved the decisive golden goal strike in the contest, firing into the Portuguese net to give Spain a 3-2 victory.

The bronze medal match saw Argentina, who saw their attempt to defend their world title come to an end in the semi-finals, emerge as convincing winners.

Argentina struck four times without reply against France to end their campaign on a high.
