The Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) held a special lunch in honour of American athlete Christian Taylor at its headquarters.

Taylor, whose parents are both from Barbados, is a double Olympic triple jump champion at both London 2012 and the recent Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The American had previously visited Barbados in 2013 where he publicly stated his desire to compete for the country.

During his recent visit, Taylor said he was pleased to be able to visit schools and clubs on the trip and thanked the BOA for hosting him.

"It was a privilege to host such a distinguished athlete," said BOA President Steve Stoute.

"We at the BOA feel quite privileged that Christian would make Barbados one of his first stops since winning his second Olympic gold medal in Rio.

"I know that since his first visit with us, Barbadians have been cheering for Taylor as one of our own so we are very proud to have him here with us."

A number of officials joined executives of the BOA at the lunch, including the Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, and the American Consul General, William Bent.

Taylor was accompanied by his father Ian and grandfather Grantley Taylor, and joked that he had expanded his fan-base in the country in recent years.

"I have always had a feeling of family here and both me and my family are truly grateful for the love and respect that we have felt," Taylor said.

Following lunch Taylor presented the President with a cheque, as a symbol of his ongoing commitment to sport in Barbados.
