The Bahamas Olympic Committee welcomed home their team from Rio 2016 with a celebration in the capital city Nassau.

The event was held inside the ballroom of the Melia Nassau Beach Hotel and was the largest gathering of Bahamian Olympic athletes, coaches and delegates.

The Bahamas won two medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics, with the highlight being Shaunae Miller’s amazing dive to win the gold medal in the women’s 400 metres.

Her lunge provided one of the images of the Games and allowed her to pip American Allyson Felix to the Olympic title.

Chris Brown’s sprint to the finish line also helped The Bahamas bring home the bronze medal in the men’s 4x400m relay.

Furthermore, for the first time in Bahamian Olympic history, the country had a finalist in the women’s 100 metres hurdles in Pedrya Seymour, as well as an athlete in women’s rowing in Emily Morley.

Seymour finished sixth in a final won by American Brianna Rollins.

Ninety per cent of the 2016 Olympic contingent were present at the event, including Miller, the men's relay teams, Seymour and Morley.

High jumpers Donald Thomas and Trevor Barry and quarter-mile record holder Steven Gardiner were also in attendance.
