Communications company Ooredoo has congratulated the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and their 38 athletes for their achievements at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.

Qatar only won one medal in Rio with Mutaz Essa Barshim collecting his nation's first-ever silver in the men's high jump.

Ooredoo, which is headquartered in Qatar's capital Doha, is a national sponsor of the QOC and helped support a host of initiatives during the Olympic Games, including the charity "Legendary Match".

This involved footballers taking part in a special match at the QOC’s Bayt Qatar, which was organised to raise awareness about Save the Dream, the official charity of the Doha-based International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS).

Ooredoo was one of QOC’s most active partners during the Games, promoting Qatar’s presence with social media posts that were read by close to 800,000 people.

Moving forward, Ooredoo’s collaboration with the QOC will include support for all Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) events, International Swimming Federation (FINA) Swimming World Cup meetings and support for the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series, which will next be held in 2017.

Waleed Al Sayed, the chief executive officer of Ooredoo Qatar, said: "All of Qatar was proud to follow the performance of our national team at the Olympics and we look forward to future sporting success.

"We are proud to work with the Qatar Olympic Committee on their important initiatives, and Ooredoo will continue to be an enthusiastic supporter of sport in Qatar."
