The Palau National Olympic Committee has received a five-figure donation which will be put towards the country's expenditure at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Shallum Etpison, the chief executive of the NECO group of companies, donated $10,000 (£7,600/€8,800) to the Pacific nation's cause.

The donation was made possible due to a partnership with NECO's Tabecheding Water, which was granted exclusive use of the governing body's logo.

Palau has competed at every Summer Olympic Games since Sydney 2000.

At Rio 2016, the country sent five athletes to take part across four sports.

Athlete Rodman Teltull ran in the men's 100 metres, winning his heat in a time of 10.53 sec.

He was then eliminated at the quarter-final stage after coming eighth and last in 10.64sec.

In canoe sprint, Marina Toribiong made the quarter-finals of the women's K1 200m after a sixth place finish in her heat, in 48.913sec, was enough to take her through.

Despite going quicker in the semis, registering 48.306sec, this was not enough to advance any further in the competition.

In swimming, Palau were represented by Shawn Dingilius-Wallace and Dirngulbai Misech in men's and women's 50 metres freestyle respectively, but neither did enough to advance beyond the heats.

Freestyle wrestler Florian Skilang Temengil lost in the round of 16 to Hungarian Daniel Ligeti in the under 125kg class.

He was able to compete at the Games after being offered a place through the Tripartite Commission.
