Estonian Olympic Committee (EOK) vice-president Jüri Tamm has been named as the new President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) European Union Commission.

Tamm, a double Olympic hammer throw bronze medallist, takes over the role from Neinar Seli, who was appointed to the role in August 2014.

The four-time Olympian, who also won silver at the 1987 World Championships in Rome, will be tasked with leading the EOC’s EU Commission, which operates out of Brussels.

Tamm is a former Estonian politician having been elected to the nation’s Parliament three times between 1999 and 2011.

He has extensive experience within the EOC as he chaired the Athletes Commission from 2001 to 2005, earning him a seat on the Executive Board.
