Japan won both the men's and women's titles at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Bouldering World Cup in Mumbai.

Kokoro Fujii took the men's crown in front of an enthusiastic Indian crowd, beating compatriot Tomoa Narasaki into second place.

Russian climber Alexey Rubstov claimed bronze for Russia.

In the women's event, Miho Nonaka took the title ahead of Monika Retschy of Germany.

The Japanese bagged another medal as Akyio Noguchi came through in third place.

There was a surprise in the women's event as Britain's Shauna Coxsey failed to reach the final for the first time this season.

Japan's success could be a good omen for the sport which is hoping to be included on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic programme.

It is one of five sports - along with baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding and surfing - to be recommended for inclusion in the Japanese capital.

If climbing is selected by the International Olympic Committee at its Session in Rio de Janeiro in August, bouldering and lead and speed combined will be the two disciplines contested.

A total of 40 climbers would take part at the Games.
