The Hungarian Karate Federation has re-elected János Mészáros as its President. 

The 51-year-old  will serve another five-year term after being backed unanimously by the Federation's General Assembly. 

Mészáros is also a vice-president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee.

"There has been a significant progress achieved in the recognition of karate in Hungary and we aim to develop it further," he said following his re-election.

"It is one of our main objectives to build karate into the system of school education."

Mészáros also hopes to develop the sport at the elite level as the sport prepares for its possible inclusion on the Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020. 

"As far as our international results are concerned, the Hungarian competitors regularly return from international tournaments with medals.

"The 2013 Senior European Championships, which was organised by us, was one of the best tournaments over the recent years and we intend to apply for the organisation of additional international events in the future."
