Kazakhstan’s Zhussupov Ablaikhan stunned former Commonwealth Games light welterweight champion Manoj Kumar of India to reach the second round of the AIBA Asian/Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an in China.

Kumar, gold medallist at his home Games in New Delhi in 2010, never got going and was always on the back foot as Ablaikhan wrapped up a deserved victory by unanimous decision.

China's Hu Qianxun also progressed to the next round in the category as he picked up a unanimous win against Qasim Kareem Lazim of Iraq.

It proved to be a disappointing day for the Indian boxers as light heavyweight Sumit Sangwan crashed out as he suffered defeat at the hands of Korea’s Heeguan Yang.

Roldan Junior Boncales of the Philippines came into the competition as one of the lesser known boxers in his nation but announced himself on the continental stage by beating Van Thao Tran of Vietnam in confident fashion as he was awarded the flyweight bout on all three scorecards.

Boncales did not quite have it all his own way, however, as coach Nolito Velasco admitted his boxer struggled in the early stages.

"He seemed dazed and was punching by instinct alone," he told Sport Interactive Network Philippines.

"So I doused him with water and told him to focus and not mind the crowd.

"He was then able to shake it off and fought his fight."

Elsewhere on day two at the event in China, Australia's Alex Winwood, the current national champion, proved too strong for New Zealander Ivan Pavich, progressing to round two in the flyweight division with a 3-0 triumph.

Boxers from Oceania are competing alongside their Asian counterparts at an Olympic qualifier for the first time.

One of the tightest encounters of the day came in the men's light heavyweight category as China's Shi Guojun edged past Odai Riyad Adel Hindawi of Jordan by virtue of a split decision.

In the women's competition, the exodus of Indian athletes continued when Shoira Zulkaynarova of Tajikistan produced a controlled display to oust Pooja Rani in the women's middleweight division.

The fighter from Tajikistan will be joined in the next round in the category by 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei, who made light work of New Zealand's Deanne Shontel Te-Paea Carpenter with a unanimous victory.

Action in Qian'an is due to continue tomorrow.
