World and Paralympic champion Maroua Ibrahmi claimed the F32/51 club throw gold medal as the host country continued their impressive showing at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix at the Rades Athletics Stadium in Tunis.

Ibrahim did not disappoint the home crowd inside the venue as the 27-year-old produced when it mattered with a throw of 20.33 metres to clinch the title in a podium sweep for the Tunisian athletes.

Saida Nayli threw 15.67m to earn the silver medal and compatriot Dhouha Chelhi’s 11.05m was enough for bronze.

Radhia Merai continued the success for the hosts, winning the women’s F54 discus competition as she recorded a best attempt of 10.99m.

Her team-mate Smaali Bouaabid edged a close men’s F40 shot put as he threw just three centimetres further than eventual silver medallist Benian Richard Duffi with an effort of 8.05m.

Najet Ghribi of Tunisia then led the way in the women’s F37/41/44/46 as her opening attempt of 20.10m was never surpassed, ensuring she added another gold medal to the Tunisian haul.

The dominance from the home country continued out on the track, with double world champion Abbes Saidi reigning supreme in the men’s T11/36/37/38 1500 metres by clocking 4min 15.46sec.

Saidi’s compatriot Zouinkhi Fethi claimed gold in the T34/54 over the same distance, crossing the line in 3:55.3 to secure victory.

Ethiopia sealed a hat-trick of titles in the track events as Tamiru Demisse took the men’s T13/14 1500m honours in 3:58.90, before Hailu Haile powered to gold in the T46 equivalent in 4:03.80.

Yengus Dese Azenaw completed the treble for the African country by clocking 1:06.39 to win the T37/38/46/47 400m.

Poland were another nation to enjoy a fruitful second day at the third IPC Athletics Grand Prix meeting of the season with a number of triumphs in the field.

Paweł Piotrowski, Paralympic gold medallist at Athens 2004 and triple world champion in 2011, sealed gold in the F35/36/37 shot put thanks to registering a best effort of 12.57m.

Mariusz Sobczak leapt 5.19m to seal the men’s T36/37/44 long jump crown.

European silver medallist Miroslaw Madzia added to the Polish haul in the men’s F11/12 discus competition, throwing 34.40m to finish comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.

Lech Stoltman’s 11.15m in the men’s F55/56 shot put saw the Poles clinch their fourth gold on day two.
