The British Lionhearts have qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) as group winners after their cancelled clash with the Morocco Atlas Lions was declared a draw.

The match between the two teams was supposed to take place at York Hall in Bethnal Green last Thursday (March 17) but the Moroccan side were refused visas to enter Britain.

Their applications were assessed by the Home Office, who denied them entry to the country.

No reason was given for the visa refusal and the WSB Board didn't immediately reveal whether it would be rescheduled or whether it would be forfeited one way or the other.

But today’s judgement from the WSB Board draws a line under the situation and guarantees the British Lionhearts a home quarter-final against either the Ukraine Otamans, the China Dragons or the Cuba Domadores.

They have finished at the summit of the group regardless of the outcome of their final match away to the Mexico Guerreros on April 2.

The Lionhearts were looking to extend their winning start to the new season to five matches.

“Given that the reason for the cancellation was outside of the control of both the Morocco Atlas Lions and the British Lionhearts the WSB Board has determined that the match will be deemed a draw,” a WSB Board statement said.

The British Lionhearts had said they were “disappointed” by the cancellation of the contest and they have confirmed that anyone who had bought a ticket for the match with the Morocco Atlas Lions will be eligible for a refund or to switch it to the quarter-final.

The last eight clash with one of the team's from Group A will be held at York Hall on April 21 and 22, with five bouts scheduled for each evening.

“The British Lionhearts will be contacting all of those who purchased tickets for the Morocco match in the coming days to arrange a refund or switch the ticket,” a statement from the British Lionhearts read.

Tickets are priced at £15 ($21/€19) per night of the quarter-final or fans can watch both evenings for a reduced price of £26.50 ($37/€34) and can be bought by clicking here.
