International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Camiel Eurlings has been accused of a serious assault in The Netherlands, it has been reported.

The allegations have reportedly been made against the 42-year-old by his former girlfriend Tessa Rolink, a leading model.

According to De Telegraaf, the largest Dutch daily morning newspaper, Rolink went to the police in December following the alleged incident last July.

She claimed that she suffered concussion, a broken elbow and severe bruising as a result of the assault.

Dutch police have refused to confirm whether a complaint has been filed against Eurlings.

They have confirmed, however, that a 33-year-old woman has reported a charge of abuse against a 42-year-old man from Valkenburg, details which are consistent with both Rolink and Eurlings.

Eurlings' lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops has said his client does not wish to comment on the allegations.

Eurlings has, however, reportedly informed the IOC of the reports in the Dutch media about him.

Eurlings is a former senior politician, having served as The Netherlands' Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management for three years from 2007 until 2010.

He retired from politics shortly afterwards and worked for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines from 2011 until 2014, first managing director and then as chief executive.

Eurlings was elected as a member of the IOC at the 2013 Session in Buenos Aires.

He was appointed by IOC President Thomas Bach as the chairman of the newly-created Communications Commission in May 2015.

Eurlings also sits on the IOC's Finance Commission and was previously a member of the Marketing and International Relations Commissions.

He attended the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer earlier this month.

While in Norway, he attended a special ceremony where there was a signing of cooperation agreement between the Japanese Olympic Committee and the Dutch Olympic Committee*Dutch Sports Federation (NOC*NSF).

Eurlings serves as a Board member of the NOC*NSF.

"The IOC has been informed by Mr. Eurlings about the allegations made in the press," an IOC spokesman told insidethegames.

"At this point we cannot make any further comment."
