USA Knockouts' teenage trio of Shakur Stevenson, Gary Russell and Charles Conwell all recorded victories to help their team to a closely fought win over the Morocco Atlas Lions in Group B of the World Series of Boxing (WSB).

With the contest taking place in front of their home fans in Casablanca, the Atlas Lions were hopeful of recording their first win of the 2016.

Imad Ahayoun gave the hosts an ideal start as the African 46 to 49 kilogram light flyweight champion was awarded a unanimous points victory over the Knockouts’ overseas fighter Hernan Alarcon of Colombia.

The contest was quickly level as 18-year-old Stevenson prevailed 49-43 on all of the judges’ scorecards in his under 56kg bantamweight bout with African champion Mohamed Hamout.

Stevenson, a youth world champion in 2014, is due to represent the United States at this year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he will be joined by Russell.

The under 64kg light welterweight fighter put the Knockouts in front on the night with a technical knockout win over Abdelhaq Nadir.

Their victory was secured by Conwell, after he earned a split decision win over Badr-Eddine Haddioui, with two judges giving him the under 75kg middleweight contest 49-46.

Abdeldjalil Abouhamada was able to earn a consolation victory for the Atlas Lions, earning a unanimous points verdict at the end of his under 91kg heavyweight bout with the Knockout’s Brandon Glanton.

The 3-2 victory moved the Knockouts into second place in the Group B standings, with their next tie due to be against leaders the British Lionhearts, who beat the Mexico Guerreros 5-0 yesterday.

Azerbaijan Baku Fires were victorious in the final WSB fixture of the weekend, earning their second home win in Group D.

They were handed an early boost due to the Puerto Rico Hurricanes’ lightweight Anthony Ortiz being unable to fight, the walkover putting the Baku Fires into a 1-0 lead.

Their victory was secured when bantamweight Iarash Magomedov and light welterweight Gaybatulla Gadzhialiyev were awarded unanimous points victories in their respective bouts with Edgardo Rolon and Jean Carlos Rivera.

Christian Mbilli claimed the Hurricanes’ sole win of the night by defeating middleweight rival Mikalai Vesialou on points, before Abdulkadir Abdullayev sealed a 4-1 win for the Baku Fires’ by winning his heavyweight clash against Roman Fress with a technical knock-out.

The result moved the Baku Fires to the top of the Group D standings, although the Uzbek Tigers could regain the position should they overcome defending champions Astana Arlans Kazakhstan next weekend.
