Men’s doubles top seeds Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denmark and women’s counterparts Chang Ye-na and Lee So-hee crashed out of the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships at the semi-final stage at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow today.

Boe and Mogensen had been in good form throughout the tournament but became the latest victims of Malaysia's V Shem Goh and Wee Kiong Tan, who had earlier ended the title pursuit of 2014 world champions Ko Sung-hyun and Shin Baek-cheol of South Korea.

The Malaysian pair, conquerors of sixth seeds Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov of Russia in the quarter-finals, took just 37 minutes to claim a 21-16, 21-18 victory and set up a meeting with Pranaav Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar of India in tomorrow’s final.

The home favourites also sprung a surprise as they beat South Korean second seeds Kim Gi-jung and Kim Sa-rang 25-23, 13-21, 21-17.

Chang and Lee, meanwhile, failed to book their place in the final as they lost 21-17, 21-8 to Dutch duo Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek, who are seeded third.

Second seeds Jung Kyung-eun and Shin Seung-chan of South Korea stand in their way of the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships crown after they secured their spot in the women’s doubles showpiece with a 21-14, 21-16 win over Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa of India.

The home crowd did have something to cheer as men’s top seed Kidambi Srikanth progressed to his second consecutive final at the event, which is part of the Badminton Wolrd Federation (BWF) Grand Prix Gold series.

Srikanth, who lost out last year to compatriot Parupalli Kashyap, took just 32 minutes to oust 11th seed Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 21-14, 21-7.

His opponent tomorrow will be Huang Yuxiang, who ended Kashyap’s title defence yesterday, after the Chinese player overcame team-mate Shi Yuqi, gold medallist at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, 17-21, 22-20, 21-12 in a marathon contest which lasted one hour and 12 minutes.

South Korea’s Sung Ji-hyun, seeded second, won her women’s singles semi-final with Nitchaon Jindapol of Thailand 21-16, 21-8 and she will next face Japanese fifth seed Sayaka Sato.

She proved too strong for another Thai player, Porntip Buranaprasertsuk, as she sealed a 21-15, 21-17 success.

The mixed doubles final will be between Thailand's Puavaranukroh Dechapol and Sapsiree Taerattanachai and Indonesian second seeds Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanato.

Dechapol and Taerattanachai beat Kenta Kazuno and Ayane Kurihara 19-21 21-9 21-17, while the Indonesian pair edged South Korean third seeds Shin and Chae Yoo-jung 18-21, 21-11, 21-16,
