Belgium's Robin Devos and Cedric Nuytinck are the only European pair through to a doubles final at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour Hungarian Open in Budapest after a 3-1 victory over Russian rivals in today's semi-final.

The duo fought back from a first game loss to overcome Alexey Liventsov and Mikhail Paikov 3-1 in the first last-four clash before Taiwan's Chuang Chih-Yuan and Huang Sheng-Sheng received a walkover over compatriots Chen Chien-An and Chiang Hung-Chieh in the other.

Earlier today, Devos and Nuytinck had produced a shock 3-2 win over top-seeded Japanese pairing Yuto Kizukuro and Yuki Matsuyama.

It will be South Korea versus Hong Kong in the women's final, meanwhile.

South Korea's Jeon Jihee and Yang Haeun overcame Germany's Shan Xiaona and Petrissa Solja, 3-1, before Maria Dolgikh and Polina Mikhailova became the second Russian semi-final casualty of the day with a 3-1 defeat to Hong Kong pairing Jiang Huajun and Tie Yana.

Action also continued today in both singles competitions at the opening World Tour event of the year.

On the women's side, Tie Yana added to her doubles success, beating  Japan's top seed Ai Fukuhara, 4-2, in the shock result of the day.

Compatriot Doo Hoi Kem beat Germany’s eighth seed Shan Xiaona, 4-2, while Turkey’s Hu Melek ended the hopes of South Korea's Jeon Jihee in a seven-set thriller.

Chuang Chih-Yuan, Chen Chien-An and Chiang Hung-Chieh have all made it through to the men's quarter-finals in a Taiwanese treble which may explain the doubles walkover.

Top-seeded Chuang had the toughest match, pushed the full distance before a 4-3 victory over Poland's Jakub Dyjas, while Chen and Chiang overcame yesterday's respective giant-killers Hampus Soderlund of Sweden and Benedikt Duba of Germany, 4-1 and 4-0.

Two French players also made it through, with third seeded Simon Gauzy sweeping past Turkey's Ahmet Li 4-0 and unseeded Quentin Robinot overcoming Serbia's Aleksandar Karakasevic, 4-2.

Action will is due to conclude in all four competitions with a busy final day of action tomorrow.
