Electronics giants Panasonic will play a role in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer in Rio de Janeiro, they have announced.

The Japanese Corporation, a member of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) The Olympic Programme (TOP) sponsorship scheme and a worldwide partner for the International Paralympic Committee, will provide "turnkey visual operations" for the showpiece events at both Games.

As an "Official Ceremony Partner", they will be involved in areas including projector system design, technical consultation, system installation and onsite operation and maintenance of the visual systems.

"Panasonic is proud to become an 'Official Ceremony Partner' for the first time and support the Olympic Games Ceremonies, to create another successful era of Panasonic’s contributions to the Olympic Movement," said Panasonic executive officer, Satoshi Takeyasu.

"There is no doubt that Rio 2016 will present unique and spectacular Ceremonies and Panasonic’s technology and engineers will help deliver a great experience for spectators inside the Maracanã Stadium and for those watching from living rooms around the world.

“On Friday August 5, 2016, the world will be watching as thousands of performers and artistic contents bring to life the power and passion of Brazil's colourful heritage at the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

"In a spectacular show designed by one of the most talented creative team on the planet, we will show the best of Brazilian culture and celebration to a global audience of billions."

They will also provide state-of-the-art visual equipment including LED large screen display systems, professional sound systems, broadcasting equipment, AV security camera systems and televisions.

This will deliver the "excitement, passion and dynamic" performances of the world's top athletes to spectators at the Games, and to the viewers at home around the globe, they hope.

"We are now proud to announce that Panasonic visual solutions will help to make our dreams a reality,” added Rio 2016 chief executive, Sidney Levy.

Panasonic have extended their 25-year membership of the TOP programme until 2024, meaning this will take in both the Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Games.
