LGT Bank Switzerland has been announced as the main sponsor of the 2016 World Men’s Curling Championship in Basel.

The international private banking and asset management group had previously been the main sponsor of the tournament when it was last held in the Swiss city in 2012.

They have now reprised that role after signing an agreement with Infront Sports & Media, the exclusive media and marketing partner of the World Curling Federation (WCF).

The agreement follows fresh off the back of the cheese manufacturer Le Gruyère AOP being confirmed as another major sponsor for the event, as an extension of their support of the European Curling Championships.

“Infront’s ongoing drive to enhance the strength of our events continues to deliver strong marketing results - with LGT Bank being the second main sponsor to come on board in recent weeks for the World Men's Curling Championship 2016,” said Kate Caithness, the WCF President.

“We are pleased to welcome LGT Bank onto the ice and on behalf of the World Curling Federation we look forward to working together with LGT Bank to deliver a first class event.”

Having successfully staged the 2012 Championships at the indoor St. Jakobshalle arena, competition is set to held there again from April 2 to 6, with hosts Sweden aiming to defend their title.

LGT Bank Switzerland have stated they were attracted to the event due the traits required for success in curling, such as precision, concentration, determination and team spirit.

“Those are values that LGT also strongly identifies with, values which have always characterised our company, these factors are also crucial for long-term success in private banking,” said Heinrich Henckel, chief executive of LGT Bank Switzerland.

“We are very pleased to be sponsoring a World Championship in our home town, so to speak.

“This is a great opportunity for our clients and guests to witness this precision sport first hand.”

Canada are the most successful nation at the men's Championships, winning the title on 34 occasions.
