The 33-year-old Canadian triumphed in the season opener in Montafon in Austria earlier this month and doubled up in the first of two competitions at the French venue.

He edged out world champion Filip Fisar of Slovenia on the way to the ninth World Cup triumph of his career, with another Canadian, Brady Leman, coming third in the race to decide the medal placings.

There was disappointment for the host nation as France's Jonas Devouassoux missed out on a podium finish by coming last in the four man final.

The success means that Del Bosco leads the overall standings after collecting the maximum 200 points available, with Flisar and Leman both on 140.

France's Jean Frederic Chapuis, the defending World Cup champion, is currently fifth in standings.

He recorded the fastest time in both runs of a double qualification session in Val Thorens, but came 13th overall on home snow.

Meanwhile, Olympic bronze medallist and defending World Cup champion Anna Holmlund won the women's race after beating compatriot Sandra Naeslund to the line.

Ophelie David of France finished third, leaving Canada's Olympic champion Marielle Thompson last in the final.

Holmlund leads the overall standings on 180 points, ahead of Thompson who is second on 150.

A second World Cup event will take place in Val Thorens tomorrow - the third event of the season.
