The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) will begin unveiling its top 50 moments of 2015 from today until December 31, the governing body has announced.

One moment will be revealed each day and will be featured on the organisation’s website.

The top 50 will be ranked according to the impact they had on the overall Paralympic Movement this year and will be chosen based on a number of factors, including sports performance, emotional impact and media attention at both a regional and global level.

They will include moments from the vast array of major events to have taken place this year, including the recent IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha and the Parapan American Games in Toronto in August, as well as outside of sporting competition.

Fans are being encouraged to join the debate on the top 50 moments through the IPC's various social networking platforms.

“This year has seen some incredible performances and memorable moments from the world of Para-sport, as shown once again in the quality of the top 50 moments,” IPC director of media and communications Craig Spence said.

“With a huge number of world and regional championships as well as Toronto 2015, we have not been short of moments to choose from.

“With Rio 2016 fast approaching, summer sport athletes have been particularly impressive but so have the winter sport athletes in the first year back following the success of Sochi 2014.

“I am sure that the top 50 will prompt debate among sport fans as it does every year, and I would encourage them to join the debate on social media as we countdown each day.”

The 2014 top moment was the Sochi Winter Paralympic Games, which attracted a record 316,200 spectators and a cumulative global television audience of 2.1 billion in 55 countries, moving the Paralympic bar to new heights.

Nearly 550 athletes from a record 45 countries took part, with hosts Russia topping the medals table with 80 medals, including 30 gold.

In 2013, NBC's historic broadcast deal which ensured the company would cover both Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 was number one on the list, with Italian hand-cyclist Alex Zanardi's success at the Games in London named best moment of 2012.
