Swimming New Zealand (SNZ) has announced an official partnership with adidas Swimming. 

adidas Swimming is a division dedicated to swimming products inside and outside the pool and claims to be able to offer the the industry something commercially not available from other providers, from both competitive and fashion perspectives.

With it re-entering the New Zealand market through its exclusive distributor Teamsports, "there are exciting opportunities ahead", according to SNZ.

"To have the support and backing of a global brand like adidas is a real boost for our sport and our organisation," said SNZ chief executive Christian Renford.

"It is one thing to have a brand like adidas sponsoring us, but for them, to enter into a commercial partnership is exciting and unique."

Manesh Vallabh, managing director of Teamsports, added: "With what is available in the global range, adidas Swimming will be able to offer a comprehensive range going forward with the technical development of race wear, the performance benefits to swimmers and the swimming industry will be significant.

"adidas Global are putting a lot of resources into their swimming category, they have a dedicated team working on new developments and innovations."

SNZ's online shop, which can be accessed here, will soon have some of the new range of adidas Swimming products while a new e-commerce site is currently under development.

Teamsports and adidas Swimming are said to be committed to supporting the future stars of New Zealand swimming and have indicated that they will announce two SNZ ambassadors that they will sponsor in the near future.

New Zealand won two silver medals at this year’s FINA World Aquatics Championships in the Russian city of Kazan.

Both were secured by Lauren Boyle who finished second in the women’s 1500 metres freestyle and 800m freestyle.
