Great Britain's Jonnie Peacock will not have the opportunity to defend his 100 metres T44 world title after being ruled out of next month's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships in Doha.

The London 2012 Paralympic gold medallist, who fended off competition from American pair Richard Browne and Jerome Singleton to claim top honours in Lyon two years ago, is set to miss the rest of the season with a sore on his leg.

"It’s something that I’ve been managing but it’s now got to the point where I’ve been advised not to run on it," said Peacock.

"I’m extremely disappointed as this means I’ll be unable to defend my IPC World Championship title."

The 22-year-old, who also won European gold in Swansea last year, beat Browne at the Great North CityGames in Newcastle last Saturday (September 12).

The night before in Brussels, Browne was disqualified for a false start as Peacock triumphed in a time of 10.99sec.

"These decisions are never easy but I have to think of the long term effects and give it the rest it needs," added Peacock.

"It will be tough being on the sidelines but I'm sure it will be a great event and I'll be cheering on the team from the UK."

Six members of Britain's 48-strong team will defend titles at the IPC Athletics World Championships, including Hannah Cockroft in the 100m and 200m T34, and Richard Whitehead in the 200m T42.

Sophie Hahn will be aiming to retain her 100m T38 crown, while Hollie Arnold and Paul Blake will be looking to repeat their gold medal-winning performances from Lyon in the javelin F46 and 800m T36 events respectively.

The IPC Athletics World Championships are scheduled to take place from October 21 to 31.
