The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, has launched the application process for those hoping to take part in a fun run celebrating Olympic Day in the country.

The event will see up to 5,000 people running a 5.6 kilometres  route from the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Coach Park, along Park Promenade and Waterfront Promenade, before turning at Sea Point Road towards Magic Road and finishing at Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre.

The run, due to take place on June 21, forms part of Hong Kong’s Olympic Day celebrations to mark the International Olympic Committee (IOC) global initiative.

All those who take part will receive an IOC certificate and an event T-shirt.

The National Olympic Committee said the purpose of the event is to encourage people to take part in frequent physical activity, to promote the idea of “Sport for All” and to implement the Olympic Day theme of “Move, Learn and Discover”.

It also said it is organising a sports carnival, display booths, sports demonstrations and a prize draw, with prizes gifts sponsored by Samsung, Panasonic and Hong Kong Disneyland, to coincide with the fun run.

Applications for the fun run close on May 29.
