Tokyo has been confirmed as hosts of the 2015 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Asian Football Championships.

The sixth edition of the biennial Championships, scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 8, will provide a passage to Rio 2016 with the top two teams automatically qualifying for next year’s Paralympic Games.

IBSA claimed Japan’s success in hosting last year’s IBSA Blind Football World Championships, which brought together 12 nations in the capital, was key to the winning bid for the Japanese capital,

The 2013 Asian Championships were won by host nation China after they beat Japan 3-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at the end of extra-time.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, staged the inaugural event in 2005, while the 2007 Championships were held in Seoul before they moved to Tokyo in 2009 and Sendai, Japan, two years later.

This year’s Championships will be run by the Japan Blind Football Association, part of the Japanese Paralympic Committee.

The Organising Committee is putting together a package to enable as many Asian countries as possible to participate.

In March, IBSA announced that Douala, Cameroon will host this year's African Championships from October 16 to 25.
