The Jordan Olympic Committee have announced the winners of the Black Iris awards ©JOCAsian Games karate silver medallist Abdel Rahman Al Masatfeh claimed the Best Sportsman award at the Jordan Olympic Committee's (JOC) Black Iris Awards ceremony in Al Hussein Youth City's Hala Hall.

Combat sports largely dominated the recipients of the awards as World Jujistu Masters champion Rana Qabbaj took the Best Sportswoman prize, while taekwondo's Eman al Adayleh, who earned qualification for the Youth Olympic Games, was the Best Young Achiever in the Female category.

Boxing star Obadah Al Kisbeh was given the male Best Young Achiever gong thanks to his bronze medal performance at the Asian Games, held in Incheon last year.

Elsewhere, world powerlifting champion Moutaz Al Juniadi was triumphant in the Best Paralympic athlete category for his excellent run of form that also saw him claim silver at the Asian Para Games.

The ceremony rewards the Arab nation's best sporting performers and the JOC received more than 125,000 votes for the five awards at stake through their Facebook page.

The awards are continuing to grow in prominence and JOC President Prince Feisal bin Al-Hussein offered kind words to all those who were successful on a glittering night for sport in their nation.

"On behalf of the Jordanian sporting family, I would like to congratulate the worthy winners of the Black Iris Awards," he said.

"Our athletes put in countless hours of training and dedicate their lives towards sport, and these awards allow us to recognize their achievements.

"They have all made Jordan very proud and I wish them, and all of our sportsmen and women, well as they continue their careers."

The JOC teamed up with National Federations across the country, along with respected sporting officials, to determine the nominees for each awards, and fans were then able to vote purely by liking the photo of the athlete of their choice on social media.
