Jenny Ashmore has been appointed as a non-executive director by Commonwealth Games England ©LinkedInCommonwealth Games England (CGE) has appointed Jenny Ashmore, President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, as a non-executive director as it looks to build upon the success of Glasgow 2014, where they finished top of the medals table for the first time in 28 years.

Ashmore had worked with England at last year's Commonwealth Games with energy company SSE, where she was chief marketing officer and who were a CGE sponsor.

She is due to take up her new role this week and will work alongside Nick Evans, CGE's head of commercial.

England won a record 174 medals at Glasgow, including 58 gold, to finish top nation for the first time since Edinburgh 1986.

"I am so excited to be joining the Commonwealth Games England Board at such an interesting period," said Ashmore, who has also worked for Mars, Procter & Gamble and Shell.

"I think we have a massive opportunity to build on the success of Glasgow 2014 and continue to build the Team England brand.

"As we look ahead to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa and the 2018 Games in the Gold Coast, we need to be creative and utilise digital media to ensure our fans can engage directly with the team."

Ashmore will join an organisation currently searching for a permanent chief executive.

Richard Graham is currently fulfilling the role on an interim basis following the decision of Adam Paker to leave CGE after Glasgow 2014 and join the Amateur Swimming Association.

"I am delighted that we have been able to attract someone of Jenny's calibre to join our Board," said Ian Metcalfe, President of CGE.

"We are going through a period of growth that reflects our success in Glasgow 2014 and we want to maximise that to ensure all current and future Team England athletes benefit.

"We have redefined our commercial programme and shaped it so it provides a unique offering to our partners and are beginning to build a family of sponsors and Jenny's support will be crucial in evolving that."
