Hooper had been chief operating officer at the Stoke Mandeville-based IWAS, a position she had held since 2007.

Her promotion followed her being praised for her work by IWAS President Paul DePace.

The South African-educated Hooper had previously worked as national events manager at Disability Sport Events.

IWAS was formed in 2005 by a merger of the International Stoke Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation, formerly known as the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation, and the International Sports Federation of the Disabled, which had been founded by the International War Veterans Association in 1964.

Other changes announced following the conclusion of the IWAS Executive Board meeting were that Stacey Ashwell will work now solely as the wheelchair fencing manager.

Morwenna Breen-Haynes will continue with her previous roles, including membership and media and will take on responsibility for the sport of electric wheelchair hockey under the new job title of services manager.

Mark Henderson will continue to work for IWAS in a part-time capacity as finance manager.

Elin George, meanwhile, is leaving following completion of her six-month contract but will continue to work on ad hoc projects.
