David Smith has been added to the list of speakers at the upcoming Smart Cities & Sport Summit ©David Smith/TwitterDavid Smith, the award winning economics editor of The Sunday Times, has been announced as a new addition to the line up of speakers for this year's Smart Cities & Sport Summit.

The British writer, who, among other accolades, won the Harold Wincott Award for Senior Financial Journalist of the Year in 2004 and the British Press Awards Highly Commended Feature Writer of the Year in 2008, will join fellow journalist Mihir Bose for "the Big debate" at the event, which takes place in Lausanne.

The World Union of Olympic Cities, which is organising the summit, also revealed the names of some of the cities participating at the event.

These include London, Auckland, Chicago, Copenhagen, Quebec, Halmstad, Los Angeles, Lima, Calgary, Busan, Detroit, Beijing, Medellín, Edmonton, Amsterdam, Seattle, Liverpool, Barcelona, Denver, Rotterdam, Innsbruck, Lake Placid, Qingdao, and Reno Tahoe.

"It is a real pleasure for the World Union of Olympic Cities to see that cities are concerned about the challenges and the opportunities that the combination between sport and cities can bring to the table," Mélanie Duparc, secretary general of the World Union of Olympic Cities, said.

"Having David Smith for the debate will bring a world class discussion, as we have two award winning journalists on the panel."

The Smart Cities & Sport Summit will be held at the International Institute for Management Development business school in Lausanne on November 5 to 7.
