Britain's Rosie Mayglothling has been elected as the new chair of the FISA Competitive Rowing Commission ©British RowingBritain's Rosie Mayglothling has been elected chair of the Competitive Rowing Commission after defeating incumbent John Boultbee at the FISA 2014 Ordinary Congress in Amsterdam today.

Mayglothling, technical coordinator at British Rowing since 2001, defeated the Australian, former secretary general of FISA, who is now a member of the ruling Executive Committee.

Mayglothling, a former leading rower in Britain who was already a member of the Competitive Rowing Commission, polled 71 of the valid votes cast to beat Boultbee by eight votes.

Boultbee had last September stood unsuccessfully to replace Denis Oswald as President of FISA, losing to France's Jean-Christophe Rolland, who officially took over as the sport's new head last month.

The Netherlands' Jacomine Ravensbergen, the competition director at the 2014 World Rowing Championships, which finished in Amsterdam yesterday, was also officially elected as chair of the Women's Rowing Commission.

Ravensbergen, Dean at the School of Sports and Nutrition at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, had originally been appointed in March.

The Congress, the first overseen by Rolland, also re-elected the chairs of several Commission, including Hong Kong's Mike Tanner of Events, Belgium's Pat Lambert for Event Promotion and Norway's Tone Pahle of Masters Rowing.

Hong Kong's Fay Ho and Belgium's Patrick Rombaut, also retained their positions as Para-Rowing and Umpiring Commissions respectively.

The Congress provisionally attributed the 2016 World Rowing Under-23 Championships to Rotterdam, which for the first time ever will be combined with the 2016 World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships.

The 2017 World Rowing Under 23 Championships was awarded to Plovdiv, Bulgaria, which will serve as the test event for the 2018 World Rowing Championships.

Presentations were made by Rémy Charmetant, director of the organising committee of the 2015 World Rowing Championships that will be held in Aiguebelette, France and by Rodrigo Garcia, sport director of Rio 2016.

The 2015 Ordinary Congress is due to held on September 7, 2015, in Chambery, France, following the 2015 World Rowing Championships scheduled to take place on Lake Aiguebelette.

Besides Rolland, the Congress was also attended by Honorary President Denis Oswald and Australia's International Olympic Committee vice-president John Coates, FISA's representative for Oceania.

In additon, National Olympic Committee Presidents who are also rowers Eduardo Palomo of El Salvador, Khaled Zain El Din of Egypt, José Quiñones of Peru, Jiri Keyval of Czech Republic and Denis Masseglia of France were in attendance.
