Hong Kong whitewashed South Korea 40-0 in the men's final to win the first of the three-legged Series, with six tries in the final, including a hat trick from flying winger Tom McQueen, who topped the try-scoring lists with 12 from five games.

"Yeah, it was pretty good," McQueen said.

"It is my job to score tries and it feels good, especially to win a final 40-0 over Korea.

"We hardly made any mistakes in that match."

Hong Kong head coach Gareth Baber was delighted with the result and said it will boost the team as they head to next month's Asian Games in Incheon.

"We have showed progress in this tournament," he said.

"We set our sights on winning this one which sets us up well for the rest of the series and will give us momentum going into the Asian Games.

"The boys introduced into the squad held their end up and we got the performance we needed out of them.

"Korea was a tough nut to crack for we know they can scores tries.

"But we made sure our defence was up to it."

Japan secured third place by overcoming Sri Lanka 42-12.

Meanwhile, despite losing 38-7 to Asian champions China, the Hong Kong women received a much deserved boost after defeating favourites Japan 10-5 in the semi-final to make it into their first ever Cup final.

"We targeted a top three and this kind of exceeded our expectations, but having said that I want our girls to aim high," said Hong Kong head coach Anna Richards.

"The girls have come a long way but I want them to be even better."

Japan again claimed third place, this with a 19-5 win over Kazakhstan.

The second round of the Asian Rugby Sevens Series is due to take place at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on September 6 and 7.
