Birori Dady played in the team that lost 2-0 to home side Congo in the first leg of their second round qualifying match on July 20.

After the match in Pointe-Noire, a protest was lodged by the Congolese Football Federation on the grounds of the player's eligibility.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) then looked into the player's background.

It found Dady, who plays for AS Vita Club, has a Congolese passport with the name Etekiama Agiti Tady and a different age.

After gathering information from both football federations and interviewing the player last Monday (August 11) at the CAF's headquarters in Cairo, it "established that the two identities only referred to a single person".

It added: "While the Rwandan Football Federation maintained that to their knowledge the player Birori Dady had one identity, investigations revealed that he was summoned as Etekiama Agiti Tady by [the Rwandan Football Federation] to join the national team of Rwanda."

The player has been suspended with immediate effect and until further notice, and banned from playing for his club or the national team

Rwanda, who scored two goals in the second leg of their qualifier to set up a penalty shootout which they won, has been kicked out of the competition - which has reached its group stage.

Congo will take their place in Group A, joining Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan.

Their first match will be away to Nigeria on September 6.

The CAF are due to meet on September 17 where it is set to confirm the length of Dady's suspension.

They could also impose additional sanctions.

The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to be held in Morocco from January 17 to February 8.
