The International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) announced today that the Greco-Roman wrestler tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid, Trenbolone, during the Greco-Roman World Cup in the Iranian capital Tehran on May 16.

According to a FILA statement, the results of Nematpour's A sample, conducted by the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) accredited laboratory in Cologne, Germany, initially indicated the presence of the banned anabolic steroid Trenbolone.

After being notified of the result, the 2013 World Championships gold medallist requested an analysis of his B sample.

Results from this second sample concluded today and confirmed the presence of the prohibited substance found in the A sample.

Nematpour has been provisionally suspended from any wrestling activity and faces a two-year competition ban pending a final ruling by FILA.

He was part of the Iran team that secured gold at the World Cup event in Tehran, after winning all five matches including a first-place playoff with defending champions Russia.

After this latest anti-doping failure, it is unclear whether this result will stand, with a FILA spokesperson telling insidethegames that, due to the case still being looked into by the sport's governing body, a "decision will be rendered in the following weeks".

Nematpour won gold in the Greco-Roman 84 kilogram category at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
