Santos, Brazil will host the 2014 ITF Beach Tennis Pan American Championships ©Stuart Barraclough/ITFBrazil will once again play host to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Beach Tennis Pan American Championships after the world governing body for the sport awarded Santos the rights for the 2014 edition of the Championships.

The event  will be just the second tournament of its kind after the inauguration of the event in Porto Seguro last September.

The flagship event was introduced as a fourth major Championship to the ITF Beach Tennis Tour and is once again expected to attract the top players from the Pan American region.

It joined the ITF Beach Tennis World Team Championship, ITF Beach Tennis World Championships and the European Beach Tennis Championships as beach tennis continues to grow across the world.

The 2014 edition is due to take place from September 19 until 21 with men's, women's and mixed doubles events set to take place.

Santos is no stranger to beach tennis as it is home to the defending Pan American champions Marcus Ferreira and Thales Santos, who claimed the title at the 2013 edition.

Brazil were, in fact, dominant in all three events in the inaugural Championships with Samantha Barijan and Joana Cortez securing the women's title and Sophia Kelbert partnering Santos to seal the mixed title.

The ITF Beach Tennis Tour has already visited the beaches of Santos this year, including a Grade 1 event in January in which Ferreira and Santos overcame the top seeded team of Alex Mingozzi and Vini Font.

The Pan American Championships will be immediately preceded by an ITF Grade 1 tournament offering $10,000 (£5,970/€7,351) in prize money.

This is hoped to not only provide a chance for the top players in the region to weigh up their opponents ahead of the weekend's event but will also attract elite players from around the world to compete.

This tournament is scheduled be held on September 17 and 18.
