The Hungarian Fair Play Awards took place at the Hilton Hotel in Budapest ©HOCWorld champion swimmer Katinka Hosszu and 18-year-old Ben Gratz were among those honoured at the Hungarian Fair Play Awards at a ceremony in the Hilton Hotel in Budapest.

The awards, organised by the Fair Play Committee of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (HOC),are led by double Olympic fencing silver medallist Dr Jeno Kamuti.

The awards recognise fair play in the sporting arena and athletes who lead by example.

Hosszu had a memorable 2013, claiming two titles in the women's 200 and 400 metres individual medley at the World Championships in Barcelona, dominating the 2013 World Cup series and claiming two silver medals at the European Short Course Championships in Herning, Denmark.

But she was honoured by the HOC for her work in helping to secure the 2021 World Aquatic Championships for Budapest, awarded to the city by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in July last year.

The 25-year-old interrupted her schedule during the Barcelona World Championships to join the Hungarian bid team that presented to FINA's ruling Bureau.

Gratz was also honoured after he provided rival Daniel Dudas with a spare pair of goggles in the heat of battle at the Hungarian National Championships.

Gratz and Dudas were locked in a swim-off to determine a place in the final of the 50m butterfly when the latter's goggles broke, only for Gratz to hand his rival his spare set.

Dudas went on to beat Gratz to claim a spot in the final.

Mountaineer Peter Kiss was presented with a posthumous award following his death last year.

Kiss was among five climbers who lost their lives in May last year after it is believed they fell from an altitude of more than 7,890m on Mount Kanchenjunga in the Himalayas.

Executive Committee member of the International Sports Press Association, Dezso Dobor, was also among those honoured following a career spanning 40 years as an international journalist.
