Coca-Cola-owned Powerade is the official sports drink chosen by FIFA and its campaign, created by Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam, includes television and online commercials, print and out-of-home adverts and documentary-style films.

FC Barcelona star Iniesta, who bagged the winning goal for Spain in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final against the Netherlands, is the face of the campaign and is supported by stories of five amateur athletes from around the world.

In the main 60-second global advertisement, Iniesta is shown playing in front of a packed stadium when the action cuts to children playing for fun on dusty pitches and in a voiceover talks about how "the game that matters most is the one you're playing".

The advertisement is being shown in nearly 40 markets across the world, including the United States, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa, while a 30-second version of the ad is also planned to air in the UK.

The global advertisement is supported by five documentary films, which follow five different young athletes including Marcelo Schmidt and Haboubakar Amadou Conde of Brazil, Spaniards Erik Flores and Karlota Planas, and American Nicolai "Nico" Calabria.

Each film demonstrates how the athletes came up against adversity and chose to power through, including Calabria who was born with only one leg.

The film follows Calabria as he grows up and incorporates hours of home video footage edited with live action film.

The documentary aims to portray the raw and inspiring willpower of a young man who refuses to let any challenge stand in his way, according to global group creative director for Powerade, Brynn Bardacke.

"Nico's story is one of unwavering determination," said Bardacke.

"He truly embodies what we mean when we say there's power in every player and power in every game."

A 60-second version of this film will be shown on TV in selected markets, including the US, from April 27.

All five documentary films can be viewed on Powerade's YouTube channel.

The work was written by Bernard Hunter, art directed by Mike Bond and directed by AG Rojas through Caviar Los Angeles.

Starcom MediaVest handled the media planning and buying.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is due to take place from June 12 to July 13.
