Gillot, 34, spent three years as head of communications and public relations at AIBA after previously being lead editor of the French channel for FIFA.com.

The Frenchman's extensive experience in the sports world also includes a stint with advertising agency Havas Sports & Entertainment and an advisory role with the Annecy 2018 Olympic bid.

"I have very much enjoyed the past few years with AIBA and I would like to thank President CK Wu, executive director Ho Kim and World Series of Boxing chief executive Karim Bouzidi for their support", Gilot told insidethegames ahead of the announcement being made today.

"Since Brian Cookson's election, the UCI has proactively embraced its challenges and I am thrilled to be part of this new era at such a pivotal moment for the sport of cycling.

"I am honoured by the confidence President Cookson and director general Martin Gibbs have put in me, and I am looking forward to officially starting at the beginning of May."

The announcement comes a few days after the UCI appointed Deltatre to assist in revamping its digital strategy, and Gillot will support this strategy of modernisation and transparency implemented by the new governance of the UCI and its President Cookson.

Gillot will take up his position on May 5 and head a team which includes the current UCI press officer Louis Chenaille.

"Having Sébastien on board is excellent news for the UCI," said UCI director general Gibbs.

"His understanding of international sports federations and the Olympic Movement is perfectly in tune with our goal to restore the reputation of our Federation and to get it back on track as a major player in global sport."

"His appointment comes at an exciting time for UCI communications as we prepare for the launch of the new UCI website later this summer."
