The sport's world governing body temporarily suspended the Slovak Republic's national basketball federation due to "outstanding debts", meaning the event - originally scheduled to take place in Bratislava - had to be moved.

But the change in host nation does not mean a change in dates and the tournament will be played from June 28 to July 6 as first planned, while the results of the draw carried out on February 26 still stand.

FIBA did, however, say that the Slovak Republic will not be replaced in the 16-team field for the World Championship and could still take part if the national federation "meets requirements set out by FIBA to have the suspension lifted".

Slovak Basketball said in a statement that it is negotiating a payment plan with FIBA with the aim to have its membership reinstated.
