The Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006 pairs gold medallist will lead an experienced 10-strong squad - five men and five women, who have competed in a total 20 Commonwealth Games between them and have three gold medals to their credit.

Marshall, who is also the current world pairs champion outdoors and indoors with partner Paul Foster, is the only person to have won five world indoor singles titles and holds the record for the most world titles won which amount to a tally of 19.

Marshall will continue his partnership with Foster on home turf at Glasgow 2014, with the pair being the first in the history of the sport to hold both the indoor and outdoor world titles simultaneously.

Foster is equally successful in the singles and is the current International Open Singles champion and world number one.

Leading the women is current World Outdoors Fours champion Margaret Letham, who will be making her fifth successive Commonwealth Games appearance.

She won gold at her first Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and will be confident of picking up a medal in Glasgow following her victory at the 8 Nations event held on Kelvingrove - the green that will host the event at the Games in July.

Lauren Baillie, who was also a member of the fours gold medal winning team at the 8 Nations last September, will make her Commonwealth Games debut at Glasgow 2014.

Darren Burnett, David Peacock, Neil Spiers, Caroline Brown, Claire Johnston and Lorraine Molloy complete the squad.

"Congratulations to all 10 bowlers who have been selected to represent Team Scotland at Glasgow 2014," said Jon Doig, Scotland's Chef de Mission.

"There was extremely stiff competition for the 10 places available and confirms Scotland's strength in depth in the sport of lawn bowls.

"This team has one of the strongest pedigrees we have ever seen with consistent success at international level both indoors and outdoors.

"I am sure their collective skills and experience will stand them in great stead for this summer's Commonwealth Games when they will have the added benefit of huge home support."

The team will be led by head coach David Gourlay, who took over at the helm of the Scottish national squad in 2012.

Following his take-over, Scotland picked up six medals at the World Championships in Adelaide, three of which were gold.

"All of our players are immensely proud to be selected for Team Scotland today," Gourlay said.

"This is the culmination of an 18-month training and selection process and choosing the team has been made more challenging because the whole elite squad committed fully to the programme and everyone satisfied the selection criteria.

"I firmly believe the 10 players we have selected will give us our best opportunity to win medals in Glasgow this summer.

"This is our best prepared bowls team and we look forward to being part of what we believe will be the most successful Games ever for Team Scotland."

Scotland will also enter athletes in the Parasport lawn bowls competition in the B2/B3 visually impaired mixed pairs and B6/B7/B8 physically impaired open triples, with the team members to be announced next month.

The announcement of the lawn bowls team brings the total number of athletes selected so far for Glasgow 2014 to 46, with an anticipated final team size in the region of 270 athletes.
