The five-strong team will be led by former international shooter Robert McVeigh, who will act as Chef de Mission for the second Games in-a-row having also performed the role at Delhi 2010.

McVeigh has been a member of the NICGC since 1992 and Glasgow 2014 will be his fifth Commonwealth Games serving on the mission staff, while he has also worked at all three Commonwealth Youth Games.

"I have total faith in the selected leadership team in putting together a programme for members of Team Northern Ireland," said McVeigh.

"With our experienced staff, I am confident that we have the ability to hit the ground running.

"Our team is excited in our support of athletes and their coaches, as they compete for medals."

McVeigh will be supported by the experienced quartet of Terry Crothers, Alison Moffitt, Stewart Tosh and Phil Glasgow, all part of the backroom team at Delhi 2010.

Crothers, who spent 25 years working with BBC Sport, will act as general team manager for Village and operations and, like McVeigh, has attended the past four Commonwealth Games and the three Commonwealth Youth Games.

Moffitt, a former Irish national javelin champion, has been part of the Mission Staff for Northern Ireland since 1998 and will be the general team manager for sport in Glasgow where she will provide sport and coach support, to help enhance team performance.

General team manager for operations Tosh has a background in triathlon and been involved with the NIGC for the past 16 years, acting as a general team manager in Delhi.

The experienced and aptly named Glasgow, will look after the medical needs of the Northern Irish squad, as he did in Delhi.

Glasgow is head of Sports Medicine at the Sport Institute of Northern Ireland, vice-President of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine and worked with Team GB at London 2012.

Team Northern Ireland finished 13th on the medal table at Delhi 2010 which saw the team claim three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

Boxing provided the bulk of success for the team with Paddy Barnes, Patrick Gallagher and Eamonn O'Kane all claiming gold while Steven Ward and Thomas McCarthy secured silver medals.

Belfast-born Barnes has represented Ireland at two Olympic Games, winning bronze on both occasions at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Cycling provided a silver and bronze in Delhi while Gary Kelly took bronze in lawn bowls as did shooters Matthew Hall and David Calvert.
