The E-Head Gear was used throughout the competition's junior matches with 398 athletes donning the gear in its first official tournament.

The electronic head gear works in a similar fashion to the Protective Scoring Systems (PSS) already in use at WTF-sanctioned events where body shots are scored through a computerised system rather than at the judge's discretion.

But this new piece of equipment will allow kicks to the head to also be scored via this means, helping to improve the accuracy of each contest, a fact that can reduce the number of video replay requests, making the combats more fluent and dynamic.

The official test events of the Daedo Electronic Head Gear will only comprise the junior categories of each competition, as it is not a WTF-approved product yet and cannot be used in official competitions that are rewarded with ranking points.

The tests are being carried out in order meet the WTF's aspirations of having the gear used at Rio 2016 as expressed by WTF President, Chungwon Choue earlier this year.

The E-Head Gears were said to have worked properly throughout the competition in Sweden, not interfering with the normal development of the matches.

The second official test will be held during the US Open, which is due to start today in Las Vegas, where it will be used in two junior weight categories.
