Sochi 2014 will be Kikkan Randall's fourth Olympic Games ©Bongarts/Getty ImagesJanuary 22 - World champions Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins have been named to lead the United States' 14-strong cross country skiing squad heading to Sochi 2014. 

World team sprint gold medal winner and 2009 individual sprint silver medallist Randall is going to Russia as a strong favourite for a podium finish at what will be her fourth Winter Olympics outing.

The team also features six other athletes with Olympic experience: Kris Freeman, Simi Hamilton, Torin Koos, Andy Newell, Holly Brooks and Liz Stephen.

Meanwhile, Diggins will make her Olympic debut at Sochi 2014 alongside Erik Bjornsen, Brian Gregg, Noah Hoffman, Sadie Bjornsen, Sophie Caldwell and Ida Sargent.

"We have a unique opportunity to make history in Sochi," said Chris Grover, head cross country coach.

"Our team speaks to years of dedication, experience and hard work with veterans setting the stage to turn that work into great results.

"Additionally, our younger athletes are fighting for results and have shown that they have earned their spots on this team.

"We're ready for the challenge ahead."

All nominations are subject to approval by the US Olympic Committee (USOC), with the formal naming of the team set for January 27.
